Advice from OBX Brides - Part III

Enjoy this installment of 'Advice from OBX Brides'.  We asked a set of questions to a handful of gals who opted for an Outer Banks wedding.  We thought 'OBX Brides-to-Be'  would like reading about a variety of experiences while in the midst of their wedding planning.

1. What venue choices did you make for your ceremony and reception?  Did they work out well?
Our ceremony was held at the Woodmere Beach Access in Kill Devil Hills and reception at Duck Woods Country Club.

2. What time of year was your event?  Did you honeymoon on the Outer Banks as well?
Our wedding was October 2 and our honeymoon was scheduled for Abaco, Bahamas but due to destruction by Hurricane Jeanne we ended up in Dominican Republic and had a wonderful time.

3. What type of accommodations did your wedding party and out of town guests use?
We rented a Sunday-to-Sunday 9 bedroom oceanfront home next to the beach access and used the dune walkover for the bridal party to walk over to the beach.

My entire immediate family stayed in the home with us including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and they had a wonderful time. They could arrive at their leisure and come and go as they pleased.

Other friends and family stayed at the
Colony IV.

4. Did you plan the event yourself or use a wedding planner or event day coordinator?
We had an event day coordinator which was super helpful.

5. Favorite and/or funniest moment?
Our dog Shelby “participated” in the ceremony and during the ceremony she started digging and buried the train of my dress. It was precious! Also after the ceremony we took a lot of time to take immediate and extended family photos on the beach which make wonderful Christmas gifts.

6. Best budget splurge?
The reception site, Duck Woods Country Club. The food was wonderful and they were very easy to work with.

7. Best budget savings/value?
I made the programs myself and I was a little worried at first but they came out perfect.

8. How was your experience with vendors? Any tips or suggestions?
I would highly recommend Cloud Nine for jewelry. She made all my jewelry, the bridesmaids' jewelry and the boutonnieres for the groomsmen. She is absolutely fantastic and the jewelry is one of a kind and also a perfect gift for the bridesmaids. Argyles made the cake which was beautiful and delicious.

9. Any aspect of planning or the big day you wish you’d done differently?  Anything you forgot to consider?
At our reception we had a sit down dinner and I think heavy hors d'oeuvres would have helped people socialize more.

10. Your #1 piece of advice for brides-to-be planning their upcoming Outer Banks Weddings?
Start at least a year in advance!

Thanks very much to our latest OBX bride guest blogger!
Keep an eye out for our next 'Advice from OBX Brides' installment!
