Going to the Chapel...
One of the most charming ceremonies I've attended was a small gathering in the quaint century-old Corolla Chapel on the northern end of the Outer Banks. It was a February wedding and the theme was snowflakes. Between the warm, intimate feeling she created for the ceremony using simple flowers and candlelight in the cozy wood-walled chapel and the fabulous design ideas she pulled off for the evening reception at Penguin Isle Sounside Grille & Bar in Nags Head - it really was quite a memorable event.
I loved the look of the silvery sparkling decor in the dimmed restaurant lighting which gave the venue a fun and enchanting kind of feeling... the tall paper whites centerpieces she grew herself... and the whimsical towers of cupcakes (by Black Pelican Oceanfront Restaurant--yum!) and koozie favors for the guests. I also loved how the bride - a beautiful, confident young artist with a slim statuesque frame any of us would envy - opted for a killer pair of powder blue leather pants for the reception over the fuss of a bustled-up dress. We all danced the night away to a great band under those funky snowflakes!
For many couples planning a destination wedding, having their ceremony in a church is still very important. If this is true for you, don't fret. There are plenty of options for you on the Outer Banks. Click here for a list of area churches by denomination.
For those who want to say 'I do' with the ocean waves gently lapping the shoreline behind you, or in front of an unforgettable sunset on the banks of the beautiful sound, click here for a list of local officiants.
