Unforgettable OBX Fall Wedding Mixes Champagne Theme & Great DIY Ideas

Yikes!...October is upon us already and I have only just begun to think about my upcoming wedding anniversary!  How will we celebrate?  We are about upon our 10th and I can’t believe it!  Hmmm…not a repeat of the wedding!  That’s for sure!  My husband and I are Outer Banks locals but we ‘got hitched’ Vegas-style with Elvis at the Graceland Wedding Chapel of Love.  Now, don’t get me wrong…I have yet to regret how our nuptials transpired.  It was so ‘us,’ you know!  But I also love a more traditional celebration like a friend's fall wedding in Corolla I attended a couple of years ago.  What a fabulous event the bride, Johanna, orchestrated!

Now, my friend Johanna is the quintessential ‘Champagne Lady!’ (OK, if anyone knows the Lawrence Welk Show reference, I will just freak out!), so the theme for her wedding was, of course, champagne!  She had to have planned this wedding for a year (or two) to have collected and/or purchased all of the wonderful pieces to this wedding puzzle.  Allow me to elaborate…and her pictures are worth a thousand words…

The first indication of the official theme was the invitation…a big champagne bottle that you had to remove from its little bucket to read all the details of the upcoming event.  Too cute!

We were all so excited and many wedding events followed with lots of champagne-themed items! When the big day arrived, a truly touching ceremony took place at the Corolla Chapel in the historic Corolla Village. What a beautiful beginning for a lovely wedding and life together for these two as husband and wife.

I simply could not believe how many things she had found with a champagne theme.  In addition, I could not imagine how long and how much effort it took the bride, the groom, their families and all their friends to ‘collect’ all of the champagne corks and champagne goodies!

Upon entering The Currituck Club's clubhouse where the reception took place, a table donned with a white cloth held tiers of wedding cakes (the clubhouse can be rented for receptions of up to 120 people).  The main cake was shaped like a champagne bucket and a real champagne bottle was placed in the top of the cake!  There were several smaller cakes iced in white with glass ‘bubbles’ atop each.

A champagne fountain also greeted us for toasts that took place later in the evening.

Again, what did this couple NOT think of:

there were champagne corks for place card holders, champagne-named tables, champagne cages for napkin rings, and center pieces that held heart-shaped ivies in silver champagne buckets instead of vases.

While listening to family and friends share stories of love and laughter, we enjoyed a delicious, full course sit-down dinner out on the patio of the Currituck Clubhouse.  Until you have dined here at sunset, you can not imagine how amazing this view is!

After dinner, cake and toasts, we all climbed the stairs to the Clubhouse members-only area for Karaoke and dancing.  The dance floor was lined with 3-foot champagne bottle and champagne glass balloons held in place by real, weighted champagne bottles.

As if our memories and photos were not enough to savor this special occasion, we were showered with lots of themed wedding favors including a gel candle of a mini champagne glass.

Here is the happy couple as their night of ‘champagne wishes and caviar dreams’ drew to a close...

A very special thanks to our guest blogger, Krista, for reminiscing and sharing photos of this real Outer Banks wedding with us! What great inspiration for OBX brides-to-be out there trying to settle on a theme and brainstorm Do-It-Yourself elements to keep costs down, as well as, wow guests with fun, unique design ideas.
